In recent years, Yale SOM students have organized and participated in a range of competitions, including the following:

Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Club Case Competition

SOM students, Yale graduate science students, post-doctoral fellows, and other Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Club members compete in teams to value a pharmaceutical compound and determine whether or not to fund its development.

CNBC MBA Fast Money Challenge

Hosted by Dylan Ratigan, this new game show, billed as the “varsity sport of the financial mind,” pits MBA students from eight top business schools against each other in a traditional single-elimination bracket tournament.

Finance Club Case Competition

Over a two-day period, SOM students compete in teams on a case addressing a current corporate finance-related issue. Five teams are ultimately chosen as finalists. Their presentations are judged by a team of senior SOM alumni, faculty from Yale Law School, and professionals in finance.

Global Social Venture Competition

Started by MBA students at UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business in 1999, the Global Social Venture Comptetition is the first student-led business plan competition that supports and promotes social ventures — enterprises that integrate both profits and social impact.

MIT Sloan Operations Simulation Competition

Using the Littlefield Technologies factory simulation, each team participating in the Operations Simulation Competition — run entirely online — is responsible for running a simulated factory that manufactures digital satellite system receivers.

SOM's "yalewillwin" team beat 62 other MBA student groups to secure a victory in the 2007 OpSimCom. Read more about their win.

National Energy Finance Challenge

In this "marathon case study," teams must evaluate business opportunies and create financial models for fictitious energy companies operating in multiple imaginary countries.

Net Impact Green Challenge

This contest recognizes the actions of students who have developed effective environmental programs at their colleges. Students are awarded based on merit shown in one of two categories: the Campus Greening Initiative and the Impact at Work Program.

Y50K Entrepreneurship Competition

The Yale Entrepreneurial Society (YES) is a student-run program that harnesses the power of the Yale network, enabling alumni and students to learn from one another as they promote new venture creation. YES sponsors the Y50K Entrepreneurship Competition, which awards a total of $100,000 to Yale students.
